Tough Start to the Year Despite Promising First Half for UM Futsal

UM Futsal kicked off the new year with a spirited performance against Ta’ Xbiex, ultimately falling short in a 6-3 defeat at the National Sport School. Despite the result, there were encouraging signs for the University of Malta side, who showed early dominance and went toe-to-toe with their opponents during the opening half. The match marked the penultimate fixture of the regular season, with plenty still to play for in the campaign ahead. It is also worth noting that UM Futsal donned Betsson branded shirts for this match, as the gaming group returns as main sponsor.

The first match of 2025 began with UM Futsal pressing high and creating chances, which soon paid off as goals from Mohammed El Amari, Luke Borg, and Andre Cachia gave the team a well-deserved lead and control of the first half.

However, the momentum shifted midway through the match when Ta’ Xbiex found their rhythm. Gian Carlo Sammut emerged as a game-changer for the adversaries, finding the net and rallying his team into a strong second-half comeback. The pressure mounted, and Ta’ Xbiex capitalised on defensive lapses to turn the tide and secure the win.

Although the team walks away without the points, there were notable individual performances and positive moments to build upon as the squad looks ahead to the next fixture.

UM Futsal would like to thank all supporters and sponsors for their continued backing, including Betsson, MITA, Powerade, Fort Fitness, The Print Guy, and Shawn’s Pastizzeria.
