UM Futsal got their Laferla Futsal Trophy campaign off to a flying start with an exciting 6-4 win over Birżebbuġa in the opening round, played at the National Sport School on January 25.
It was a high-intensity match filled with attacking action, and UM Futsal rose to the occasion with goals from multiple key players. Mohammed El Amari opened the scoring, while Luke Borg bagged a brace to give the team a strong foothold. The standout performance came from Cleaven Portelli, who stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick.
Despite Birżebbuġa’s efforts to stay in the match, UM Futsal maintained their composure and attacking rhythm to seal a well-deserved victory and book their place in the next round.
This result reflects the squad’s hard work and determination as they aim to challenge for silverware in this season’s Laferla Futsal Trophy. With the first hurdle cleared, all eyes now turn to the next stage of the competition.
