UM Futsal are through to the final of the Laferla Futsal Trophy after a commanding 8-0 win over Marsaskala, in a match that showcased both attacking brilliance and rock-solid defence.
The team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, with standout contributions from Steve Camilleri and Cristian Fernández, who each bagged a hat-trick to put the game well out of Marsaskala’s reach. Their sharp finishing and relentless pressure proved too much for the opposition to handle.
Adding to the goal tally were Cleaven Portelli and goalkeeper Stefan Vella, whose strikes added a layer of polish to an already emphatic display. The scoreline not only reflects the squad’s attacking prowess but also underlines the cohesion and drive that have become hallmarks of this team.
Captain Cleaven Portelli led by example throughout, setting the tone with high energy and leadership on the court. The victory was also a testament to the team’s preparation, tactical discipline, and the hunger and grit demonstrated by the team. Coach Zvezdan gave the opportunity of some game-time to the other two goalkeepers in the line-up, i.e. Mark Adami and Ryan Scerri. All three goalkeepers managed to keep a clean sheet.
The result sees UM Futsal book a spot in the final, where they will now aim to cap off their impressive cup campaign with silverware. With momentum firmly on their side, the squad heads into the final brimming with confidence and determination.
